Fall is my favorite season and I’ve loved growing many varieites of pumpkins this year. Here are my all my favorites pumpkins for creating a whimsical pumpkin patch, and of course you must grow them on an arch!
Grow one or two or if you have space, all of them. If you can only grow a few, my absolute favorites are Baby Bear, Jarrahdale, and Baby Boo. You’ll get a mixture of color and size, which is perfect!
Here are my favorite pumpkins for backyard pumpkin growers: (I’ve grown all but the White Bowe Stacker (new for me this year).
🧡 Baby Bear Pumpkin (The most perfect long stemmed, round baby pumpkins—and very prolific!)
🧡Jarrahdale Pumpkin (The beautiful bluish green pumpkin you see all over the internet with a super long shelf life. In the photo below)
🧡 Fairytale Pumpkin (A muted brownish-orange, ribbed beauty; perfect for the front porch.)
🧡 Baby Boo (The itty bitty white pumpkins you usually see at the grocery store. In the photo below.)
🧡 Snowball (These are perfectly round and a purewhite pumpkin, middle sized.)
🧡 Porcelain Doll Pumpkin (A blocky, peachy pink glossy beauty of a pumpkin.)
🧡 Cinderella (Bright orangish red flat stacker pumpkin- see my photo below.)
🧡 White Boer Stacker (Flat, white and perfect for stacking, this one is new to me this year!)
Now’s the time to plant, and it’s super easy. Just get your seeds and plant them directly into the soil. Keep the soil watered until they sprout.
My favorite place to get seeds is probably Baker Creek Seeds (Rare Seeds). They have free shipping and their seeds have low prices. I can’t always find what I’m looking for there, so I also love getting seeds from Johnny’s Seeds and Botanical Interests. Their seeds are always amazing quality and have high germination rates.
If you need them quickly, I’d check your local nursery—they sometimes have a pumpkin seed that I need. Amazon also works too if you want them quick and want free shipping. This pack has 6 amazing pumpkin seeds, five of which are listed in this post and it’s under $10 for all of them.
